MARIANNE P. LOZADA-MARQUEZ

Overview

May-ann graduated with a double degree in Business Administration and Accountancy from the University of the Philippines in 1997. She obtained her license as a Certified Public Accountant immediately after.  In 2002, she finished her legal education at the UP College of Law and became a member of the Philippine Bar the following year.

May-ann started her law practice in the litigation department of Angara Abello Concepcion Regala & Cruz Law Offices. In 2006, she moved to Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas to be a legal officer in its Office of the General Counsel and Legal Services. She joined Lim & Leynes, and eventually became a name partner and head  of its litigation department in 2011.

Since obtaining her accreditation from the Insurance Commission in 2014, May-ann has been serving as conservator, receiver or liquidator for several insurance and pre-need companies. She is currently a faculty member of the University of the Philippines College of Law and a supervising lawyer at its clinical legal education program, the UP Office of Legal Aid.

What made you decide to be a lawyer?
To protect myself from other lawyers.
Describe your ideal client?
One who is candid and decisive, makes an effort to understand the advice, values the service we provide.
What are two surprising things about you?
(1) I like lifting heavy things; (2) I am handy around the house.
Hobby you’ll never give up:
Cooking and baking which I rediscovered during the lockdowns.
Your favorite food:
A well-balanced salad.
If you had a chance to change something in the world what would it be?
Remove all kinds of discrimination and inequity.
The best advice you got:
Create certainty and leave room for uncertainty.
What is the one positive thing you learned because of the pandemic?
I can be a minimalist.
